Delete Your Account
Effective: June 6, 2026
Orbital lets you permanently delete your account and all associated data. Once deleted, your account cannot be recovered. This page explains how to delete your account and what happens to your data.
1. Delete from the Orbital App (Recommended)
The fastest way to delete your account is directly from the app:
- Open Orbital
- Go to Settings
- Tap Delete Account
- Enter your password to confirm
- Tap Delete
Your account and all server-stored data will be deleted immediately.
Note: If you are the sole administrator of an orbit with other members, you will need to transfer ownership or dissolve the orbit before you can delete your account. The app will guide you through this process.
2. Request Deletion Without the App
If you no longer have access to the Orbital app or your device, you can request account deletion by email.
Send an email from the email address associated with your Orbital account to:
Use the subject line "Account Deletion Request" and include:
- Your Orbital username (if known)
To protect your account, we will send a confirmation link to the email address registered to your Orbital account. You must click this link to authorize the deletion. Confirmed requests are processed within 30 days.
3. Delete Some Data Without Deleting Your Account
You do not have to delete your account to remove data from Orbital's servers. You can delete the following directly in the app:
- Orbits you own — deleting an orbit permanently removes all of its threads, replies, and media from our servers
- Photos, videos, and files you uploaded — delete any of your own media attachments
- Direct messages you sent — delete your own messages from the server
- Your profile details — change or remove your display name and avatar in Settings
In-app deletions take effect immediately. To request deletion of any other data, email [email protected] from the email address associated with your account, and we will process your request within 30 days.
Note: Because Orbital is end-to-end encrypted, copies of content already delivered to other members' devices cannot be deleted remotely.
4. What Gets Deleted
When your account is deleted, the following data is permanently removed from our servers:
- Your account credentials (email, username, password hash)
- Your public encryption keys
- Your profile and avatar
- Your membership in all orbits
- Your device tokens and push notification registrations
- Orbits where you are the sole member, along with all their threads, replies, and media
In orbits where other members remain, your authorship is removed from your threads and replies. The encrypted content remains accessible to members who hold the decryption key, but it is no longer associated with your identity.
5. What Is Not Affected
- Messages already delivered to other members' devices — Orbital cannot delete data from other users' devices
- Anonymized content in shared orbits — content you posted in orbits with other members is anonymized, not deleted
6. Important Notes
- Account deletion is permanent and irreversible
- All local data on your device (messages, encryption keys, media) is wiped when you delete from the app
- Because your content is end-to-end encrypted, we cannot recover your messages or files after deletion
- If you lose your encryption keys, we cannot recover your data regardless of account status
